Irish Politician Attacks Imprisoned Bishop

It takes a lot to be shocked at the antics of the Irish left, but somehow they always find a new way to sink to the bottom.

Politician (we use that term lightly) Mick Wallace has launched a stunning attack on imprisoned Nicaraguan bishop Rolando Alvarez.

The bishop has been placed under house arrest during a widespread campaign of terror under Communist thug Daniel Ortega, who is a long time friend of Irish President Michael D. Higgins.

During a debate regarding an EU resolution on the matter, Wallace and his colleague Clare Daly claimed that Ortega was a victim of ‘imperialism’.

Daly, to be fair to her, at least tempered her remarks by stating:

“I’m not here to excuse repression, but we are the last people who should be lecturing Nicaragua”.

Wallace however, known for refusing to show respect to taxpayers by dressing appropriately for the job, flat out supported the attacks on Catholics and the rounding up of people of faith, stating that Alvarez was ‘no saint’:

“Bishop Alvarez, like anyone, should have a right to voice opposition to the government. The violent US-backed coup in 2018 resulted in approximately 200 deaths on both sides. The National Endowment for Democracy and the CIA funded some far-right criminals who plotted death and destruction. Bishop Alvarez, with his own TV station and several radio stations, was also heavily involved.

He may be a bishop, but Raymundo Alvarez is no saint. The crimes he is accused of are serious and require a fair and thorough investigation. Instead of rushing to condemn, we need support to call up Pope Francis for a return to dialogue between church and state and encourage a return to peace and stability”.

The Irish church should listen to these arguments very carefully, a hard left government is on the horizon and such a crackdown is not beyond the realms of possibility.

As in Canada, the church will likely be forced to start selling assets to pay for past mistakes of the State's institutions.

Parties like the Social Democrats have already suggested banning Confession.

Michael D Higgins has refused to condemn a close friend who has persecuted the church while Wallace is now actively defending Ortega.

We saw Enda Kenny closing the Vatican Embassy ten years ago, we see mediocrities like Fianna Fail Senators attacking Poland and Hungary daily and we saw the glee with which politicians sent Gardai to harass priests who allowed one or two extra mourners to attend funerals during Covid.

Do not think it cannot happen here.
