Irish Politicians Welcome Azerbaijan Leaders Despite Genocide

For one of the most woke and virtue signalling regimes in Europe, Ireland’s ruling parties are never shy about making colossal gaffes by cosying up to not so PC causes.

In a shocking development, the ruling Fianna Fail party hosted delegates from Azerbaijan, which is currently in the process of committing genocide against Armenians in Nagorno-Karabakh.

Fianna Fail's Seán Ó'Fearghail said:

I ask Members to join with me in extending a very warm céad míle fáilte - one hundred thousand welcomes - to my counterpart from Azerbaijan, H.E. Dr. Sahiba Gafarova, who joins us in the Distinguished Visitors Gallery. Dr. Gafarova is in Dublin to attend the European Conference of Presidents of Parliament, which I am honoured to host this year. She is accompanied by H.E. Ambassador Elin Suleymanov and by our good friend Terry Leyden, who is outside the door. You are heartily welcome. It is good to have you here.

The shocking pronouncement was then followed with a roundtable meeting that was celebrated by Azerbaijan media as a legitimisation of their genocidal actions:

Media outlets in Azerbaijan hailed the meeting as a resounding endorsement of their diplomatic integrity.

Azerbaijan comically denied that they have harmed any civilians in the region.

By way of riposte, Armenian Speaker of Parliament Alen Simonyan was also in Dublin for the European Conference of Presidents of Parliament and he did not mince his words about the actions of Azerbaijan saying:

Azerbaijan continues to perpetrate ethnic cleansing right now

Tens of thousands of people are leaving their homes, and this is happening in the 21st century in front of the whole world. This is true evil

To the shame of Fianna Fail and others, he held up the images of Azerbaijan’s displacement of Armenians in the region:
