Catholic Churches Bombed in Myanmar

Images of a Catholic nun praying for mercy before soldiers in Myanmar went viral last month as the conflict there escalated into violence against civilians.

Now, reports are emerging which point towards that violence specifically turning against Catholics.

In the city of Demoso, a Catholic church was hit by a bomb this weekend. It was the sixth church to have been bombed in what appear to be intentional attacks by the Myanmar government.

In another bombing two weeks ago, 4 people were killed as they attended Mass inside the church.

The State Administration Council (SAC) seized power in a coup and have been designated as a terrorist group by some international authorities.

The SAC have claimed that these churches are being used as bases by the rebels opposing their rule. However, the church authorities have said that it is in fact being used to house those who have been displaced, including families and people from nursing homes.
