2005:Football Ultras Abandon Match to Honour John Paul II

On April 2nd 2005, news broke that Pope John Paul II had passed away after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease.

The world was plunged into mourning, nowhere moreso than in Poland where the Pontiff had come from and had given support to people during the rule of Communism.

One example of the deep bond between John Paul II and his fellow Poles can be seen in footage showing Lech Poznan abandoning a match with Pogon Szczecin

Only 17 years have passed yet Poland is undergoing an attack from a giant of another kind now, with naive pro American young Poles now regularly attacking churches and statues of Pope John Paul II.
