Pope Francis 'I'm not retiring'

Pope Francis has squashed rumours that his retirement is imminent, denying that he is about to resign because of cancer.

In the interview with Reuters, the pope stated that if he does have cancer, ‘They didn’t tell me anything about it’.

He said that he had no plans to retire, despite some claiming that he would in August:

All of these coincidences made some think that the same 'liturgy' would happen," he said. "But it never entered my mind. For the moment no, for the moment, no. Really!

The pope also said that he had been using a wheelchair after suffering a small fracture in his knee while the ligament was inflamed.

He also said that, ‘I am well, I am slowly getting better’.

Pope Francis also said that his operation on his colon condition was a success and that he had had to delay surgery on his knee due to the effects of anesthetic.
