The Irish government does not seem too disturbed by the rapidly collapsing birth rate in the country, nor by the criticism of their abolition of the three day wait period.
Now, they have added another controversial law, with women who have abortions now able to avail of paid leave for 5 days afterwards.
Catholic Arena’s posts on the issue caused serious debate online, mostly from people who had not read the bill and were under the impression that it only covered miscarriages rather than elective abortions.
(ii) Nothing in this section shall operate to exclude the leave entitlement set out in Section 8B(i) where such a pregnancy loss occurs as a result of a termination carried out in accordance with the provisions of the Health (Regulation of Termination of Pregnancy) Act 2018.
