Pope Paul VI's Irish Language Skills

The Irish language has been in the news this week, for rather dubious reasons.

Despite making the Irish language one of their core issues, Sinn Fein’s efforts to raise the issue at European level spectacularly backfired when Lynn Boylan complained that she was not allowed to speak Irish. She was then informed that she could, only for her to say that she would not as she had not prepared. Yikes.

It was certainly less dignified than Pope Paul VI’s cupla focal in 1975.
