Pope Leo XIV will receive the Liberty Medal today.
The pope will address people gathered in Philadelphia, in an event organised by the National Constitution Centre.
The award is an annual one given to those who are seen as demonstrating leadership in the pursuit of freedom.
Catholic activist Jimmy Lai previously received the award in 2021.
The award will coincide with the weekend of the United States of America celebrating its 250th birthday.
