On his first day in Paris, Pope Leo XIV warned Emmanuel Macron about ‘failing his duty’ as President by not showing an interest in Catholicism.
He said:
Mr President, ladies and gentlemen, I would like once again to thank you for this meeting. Indeed, to echo the words spoken by Your Excellency to the Bishops of France in 2018, it serves to show how “a Church that claims to be uninterested in temporal matters would not be fulfilling her vocation; and that a President of the Republic who claims to be uninterested in the Church and in Catholics would be failing in his duty.” [3] Be assured of my fervent prayers for your great nation.
